REVEALING TRENDS by Brian Clement, PhD, NMD, LN
From 1956 to 2016, Hippocrates Health Institute has worked with and conducted clinical research on more than 600,000 people. Females number 60%, males 40%. 45% North American, 29% European, 15% South American, 8% Asian, 3% African. Our in-house residents generally attend for the conquest of disease. Cancer is 46%, Cardiovascular disease 17%, Type 2 Diabetes 15%, Autoimmune Disease 10%, Viral Disorders 4%, Multiple Sclerosis 3%, Parkinson’s 2%, ALS 2%. Our objective with our lifestyle medicine program is to educate and support individuals to take responsibility for their life and improve all areas concerning health. Our medical team conducts thorough blood analysis at the beginning and end of each person’s stay. As graduates, they then systematically and periodically send back labs, which are accrued and used for ongoing consultations.
The Worldwide Epidemiology of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Jack Kasinski • Type 2 Diabetes Once eating raw foods, Jack was able to completely eliminate insulin use in just three days. He also lost 60 lbs. and dismissed of diabetic medication, stomach medication and high blood pressure medication.
Steve Kleinman • Type 2 Diabetes 1999: Diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes June 2011: Severe chest pains, shortness of breath, dizziness, partial paralysis in facial muscles and extreme tingling in arms and legs December 2011: Lost 25 lbs., dismissed prescription medication, normalized blood sugar and blood pressure
Number (in Millions) of People with Diabetes Aged 35 Years or Older with Self-Reported Heart Disease or Stroke, United States, 1997–2011
Michael Miller • Heart Disease 1988–2014: Five heart attacks, two triple bypasses, stents, pacemakers 2014: Angiogram diagnosed all arteries to be blocked, heart transplant recommended 2015: Blood pressure went from average of 136/79 to 96/68 September 2015: Transplant group followup—removed from the transplant list
Jim Ferlisi, MD • High Blood Pressure & Cholesterol
November 30, 2011: Diagnosed with Liver Cancer by PennMedicine February 4, 2016: Diagnosed in total remission, free of all cancer by PennMedicine
Figure 1: The trend in thyroid cancer incidence in the North American population from 1999 to 2008, subdivided by gender (a) and by disease stage at the time of diagnosis (b) (modified from Simard et al.) [11]. The trend in thyroid cancer incidence in the United States from 1980 to 2009 by histotype (c) (modified from Aschebrook-Kilfoy et al.) [20].

Two of the most powerful anti-cancer phytochemicals in cruciferous vegetables are indole-3-carbinol (I3C) and sulforaphane (SFN). In the plant, they are present as the glucose conjugates (glucosinolates). When the plant is chewed or the cells broken open, an enzyme called myrosinase is released. Myrosinase hydrolyzes the carbohydrate and the end result is the free I3C and SFN chemopreventive agents. Eating raw vegetables maintains medicinal chemistry. There is some myrosinase in your gut (bacteria) so I3C and SFN is released but not nearly as much as if the vegetable is raw. David Williams Oregon State University Environmental and Molecular Toxicology Professor, Director of Superfund Research Program
Epidemiological data demonstrates an inverse relationship between cruciferous vegetable intake and cancer risk •  Isothiocyanates and indoles from glucosinolates have been shown to modulate a number of cancer related pathways

Studies finds acrylamides in diet increase cancer risk Sweden’s renowned Karolinska in Stockholm discovered and published the initial findings on how cooking morphs the chemistry of plants making a cancer-causing component called acrylamides. Researchers at Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) have found an increased risk of ovarian and endometrial cancer among non-smoking post-menopausal women who consume food and beverages containing high levels of acrylamide, a naturally occurring chemical found in grains, potato chips, pretzels and other common baked and snack foods. Acrylamide are produced during the heating of these foods. A Dutch study of 120,000 people—half of whom were women—found that women who absorbed more acrylamide were twice as likely to develop ovarian or womb cancer as those who ingested a smaller amount. The higher amount eaten by the women involved was the equivalent to a single packet of crisps, half a pack of biscuits, or a portion of chips a day.

When a seed is planted, it grows into a viable living food. Chemical Derived from Broccoli Sprouts Shows Promise in Treating Autism Improvements were seen within four weeks and generally persisted during treatment duration. Johns Hopkins Medicine • October 13, 2014 Broccoli Sprouts Could Improve Serum Triglyceride and Oxidized LDL/LDL-Cholesterol Ratio in Type 2 Diabetic Patients After four weeks, BSP in dose of 10g/d, significantly decreased serum triglycerides, OX-LDL/LDL ratio and AIP (p

Curcumin has the potential to stop the proliferation of blood vessels that feed cancerous tumors; thereby it can stop cancerous growth. G. Bergers, D. Hanahan. Modes of resistance to anti-angiogenic therapy. Nat Rev Cancer, 8 (2008), pp. 592–603. 200 micrograms of selenium, taken daily in fortified yeast, could also protect against the liver cancer that is often associated with hepatitis B and C infection. Yu SY, Zhu YJ, Li WG. Protective role of selenium against hepatitis B virus and primary liver cancer in Qidong. Biol Trace Elem Res. 1997;56(1):117-124. (PubMed) Plant-based foods and oils rich in omega-3 fatty acid contain gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), a substance found to disintegrate tumor-cell linings and reduce tumor growth in animal studies. Kast RE. Borage oil reduction of rheumatoid arthritis activity may be mediated by increased cAMP that suppresses tumor necrosis factor-alpha. Int Immunopharmacol. 2001;1(12):2197-2199.
Emerging evidence indicates that impaired cellular energy metabolism is the defining characteristic of nearly all cancers, regardless of cellular or tissue origin. Thomas N. Seyfried, PhD Professor of Biology, Boston College
“Your body’s cells use sugar to keep your vital organs functioning,” says Clare McKindley, clinical dietitian at MD Anderson’s Cancer Prevention Center. “But too much daily sugar can cause weight gain. And, unhealthy weight gain and a lack of exercise can increase your cancer risks.”
“High consumption of vegetables and fruits and the avoidance of highly refined sugar containing foods are likely to reduce the risk of colon cancer.” Dietary factors and risk of colon cancer. Giovannucci E, Willett. WC. Ann Med. 1994 Dec;26(6):443–52. “We examined the association between dietary GI and GL and pancreatic cancer by conducting a hospital-based case-control study in Italy of 326 cases of pancreatic cancer and 652 control patients. Dietary data were obtained with the use of a validated food frequency questionnaire. GI was positively associated with pancreatic cancer. No significant association was observed between GL and pancreatic cancer. Consumption of sugar, candy, honey and jam was positively associated with pancreatic cancer, whereas consumption of fruit was inversely associated.” Dietary glycemic index and glycemic load and risk of pancreatic cancer: a case-control study. Rossi M, et al. Ann Epidemiol. 2010 Jun;20(6):460–5.
Researchers in the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University have discovered yet another reason why the “sulforaphane” compound in broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables is so medicinal—it provides not just one, but two ways to prevent cancer through the complex mechanism of epigenetics. “Numerous important findings show that cancer cells can readily metabolize fructose to increase proliferation. This has major significance for cancer patients given dietary fructose consumption, which indicates that efforts to reduce refined fructose intake or inhibit fructose-mediating actions will disrupt cancer growth.” —UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center December 3, 2013: Researchers at Texas Woman's University have shown in laboratory testing that a substance called diterpene geranylgeraniol, which is found in linseed oil, Cedrela toona wood oil, sucupira branca fruit oil, and annatto seed oil, can suppress certain prostate cancer cells.
“When you swallow a pill or eat an orange, vitamin C is absorbed at a certain rate by the gun and excreted very quickly by the kidneys,” Dr. Jeanne Drisko, co-author of the study and director of integrative medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center, told The Los Angeles Times. “But when you give it intravenously, you override that. Plasma levels can get very high.” In fact, patients could be getting up to 2,000 oranges’ worth of vitamin C in one IV treatment. “It’s difficult to tell with such a small trial whether high-dose vitamin C injections had any effect on survival, but it’s interesting that it seemed to reduce the side-effects of chemotherapy,” said Dr. Kat Arney , science communications manager for Cancer Research UK. Ma Y, Chapman J, Levine M ,et al. High-Dose Parenteral Ascorbate Enhanced Chemosensitivity of Ovarian Cancer and Reduced Toxicity of Chemotherapy. Science Translational Medicine. 2014.
